Initially founded in Philly in 1917 it was moved to Manhattan in 1919 as a dance club. One final move to its last location in 1956, this venue hosted such bands as Nirvana, No Doubt, Phish, Madonna, and many many more. Lady Gaga played a residency there to close the venue in 2014.
